Problem

As the business scaled and began delivering more time-critical medical packages such as corneas for transplant and organ tissue for testing, the Courier Company realized the need for more efficient route planning to optimize deliveries while minimizing time and distance. Access to real-time traffic information was crucial to enable drivers to avoid congestion and delays. With multiple deliveries scheduled for the same day, the company needed tools to prioritize deliveries based on customer preferences and delivery windows. They needed to be able to give ‘driver at the door’ clear instructions and reduce the amount of SOP’s the driver needed to remember. In addition, they needed to ensure that deliveries were matched to the right vehicle specifications in terms of size, weight, and fuel efficiency and to the correct driver for compliance with regulations, depending on the nature of the shipment.

Solution

Dispatch Science’s route optimization functionality provided a solution that offers significant benefits for life sciences and time-critical medical deliveries. By intelligently planning and optimizing delivery routes, Dispatch Science ensures that medical packages, such as tissue and organs, reach their destinations promptly and efficiently. This minimizes travel time and mileage, reducing the risk of delays that could compromise the viability of these sensitive items. Real-time traffic information helps drivers avoid congestion, ensuring timely deliveries even in unpredictable conditions. Additionally, the software’s ability to prioritize deliveries based on customer preferences and delivery windows ensures that the most urgent medical packages are delivered first, enhancing overall service reliability and patient outcomes.

“Before implementing Dispatch Science, our delivery routes were inefficient, leading to delays and increased costs. Delivering medical deliveries is extremely time-sensitive, as delays can compromise the integrity of a shipment. The just-in-time critical routing ensures everything is ready and delivered exactly when needed. We also needed a solution with a driver app accessible 24/7, and clear workflows and instructions to ensure all tasks were completed at each stop’’ comments CEO, Brian Mitchell.  “The workflows in Dispatch Science’s TMS are a game changer, providing clear instructions to drivers at each stop, ensures precise execution of tasks, reduces errors, and enhances overall delivery efficiency and reliability. These workflows also improve driver productivity, minimize downtime, and ensure that critical medical deliveries are handled with the utmost care and accuracy, which has led to higher customer satisfaction too!”
